“Eco-Pro” Chandrapur pleads to the President of India” to stop the sale of National Flags

Celebration of Independence Day & Republic Day is incomplete without purchase of a small paper or plastic flag. This flag is proudly sported by the young & old equally. At the end of the day when the tempo of the National festival cools down these symbols of National Honour are found lying in dustbins, roads and trampled upon by the people unintentionally. Although unknowingly, the symbol of National Honour is severely mutilated. Our freedom fighters & soldiers who laid down their lives for the National Honour once quoted “Shaan na iski janey paye, Chahe jaan bhalehi jaye”.

We have vowed to stop this gross insult of our National Flag and in an effort to do so, the volunteers of Eco-Pro carryout an exercise for two weeks after the Independence & Republic day to collect the flags thrown on roads, garbage dumps etc.

There is an urgent need to amend the “Prevention of Insult to National Honour” Act 1971. The time when this act was passed sale of such plastic or paper flags was not a practice nor was the National flag insulted in any manner, then.

For the prevention of any insult or dishonour to the National Flag “Eco-Pro Chandrapur with the help of their volunteers this Republic Day (26th January 2009) will prevent the sale of flags in Chandrapur Dist. Eco-Pro has intimated the Dist. Collector & the Superintendent of Police.

APEAL :
We hereby appeal to the citizens of India to stop buying and discourage the sale of National Flags and preserve its Honour.
